Indore - Two persons who were extorting money by posing as crime branch officials were arrested by Pithampur police on Saturday. Their woman accomplice was also arrested. Pithampur police station in-charge Taresh Soni said that Sachin, a resident of Nutan Nagar Colony in Pithampur Industrial Area had complained to the police that some people posing has crime branch men had extorted Rs 3,000 from him and were demanding Rs 50,000 more.
Sachin told police that he was on his way home from work when a woman stopped him and asked for a lift near Apparel Park on Mhow Neemuch Road. Sachin gave her lift and dropped her near Pratibha Syntex factory situated in Sector 3. The woman got down and started talking to him and asked where he lived and even as Sachin was replying two men on a motorcycle came up to them and claiming to be men from the crime branch started questioning Sachin and the woman what they were doing on the lonely stretch. They threatened Sachin and took Rs 3,000 and told him to bring another Rs 50,000 to them the next day or threatened to arrest him.
On the basis of mobile calls made to Sachin, the police took Sanjay Bitkar of Vishwas Nagar and Manoj Kumar Panicker of Raipur into custody. On interrogation, they confessed that the woman was also their aide. Her role was to trap men by asking for a lift and then they used to threaten and extorted money by posing as cops. The woman gang member, Sangeeta Nayak, 35, a resident of Chindwara was also arrested by the police.
