Guwahati: Amidst the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam, organized by the Congress party to level corruption accusations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP leader responded on Saturday, asserting that the Gandhis could not be surpassed in corruption.

Rahul Gandhi, leading the Yatra currently in its third day in the state, has labeled Mr. Sarma as the "most corrupt CM in the country" at various public gatherings over the past two days. In a counter statement posted on X, Mr. Sarma dismissed abusive comments from the Gandhi family as a blessing, providing him the energy to confront a family that perceives itself as the most powerful. He questioned whether anyone could be more corrupt than the Gandhis, listing instances such as the Bofors Scam, National Herald Scam, Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Anderson's escape, 2G scam, Coal Scam, and more.

Previously, Mr. Gandhi alleged that Mr. Sarma could provide corruption lessons to chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states. On the first day of the Yatra, Mr. Sarma had countered these claims, referring to the Gandhi family as the "most corrupt" and using a "duplicate" surname. Addressing a press conference on Friday as part of the Yatra, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi highlighted corruption as a core issue for the people of the state, emphasizing its focus during the Yatra in Assam. Scheduled to continue until January 25, the Yatra spans 833 km across 17 districts of Assam.
