CHHATTISGARH: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be on a one-day visit to Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on March 5 to boost Aam Aadmi Party’s preparations for the Assembly elections in the State scheduled later this year, a party leader said. The CM Kejriwal will be accompanied by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and the will address a party workers’ convention in Raipur.

In the 2018 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, the AAP made its maiden attempt at electoral success by fielding candidates in 85 of the 90 seats. But, a resounding victory in Punjab last year boosted its aspirations for the entire country. In Gujarat, where the Bharatiya Janata Party won a record 156 seats, the party ran a loud campaign but only won in five constituencies, gaining roughly 13% of the vote.

AAP also declared on March 4 that it would run for all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, which will also hold elections at the end of this year.

Gopal Rai, a Delhi minister and the party's State Election In-charge, told reporters that the top leadership of the AAP's visit and their engagement with party members will further strengthen the preparations for the Chhattisgarh assembly elections. Around 3 p.m. on Sunday, he said, the two leaders will speak to the party workers' convention in Jora Ground in front of the Agricultural University.

Rai accused the Congress and BJP, which have governed the State since it was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in 2000, of not doing anything for the common citizens. He asserted that the current Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress administration has absolutely failed in maintaining peace and order.

Showcasing several schemes of the Kejriwal government in New Delhi in just a few years of its rule, Rai demanded to know why Chhattisgarh had failed to register such achievements in so many years. He said that the populist statements and misleading promises made by the BJP and Congress were an attempt to win over voters.
