Ponniyin Selvan 2 is off to a terrific start at the box office, earning a large sum on the first day itself. This second part in the epic series, directed by Mani Ratnam, is reported to have earned 38 crore on day one across all networks.

According to Sacnilk, the film grossed 25 crore in its home state of Tamil Nadu. In comparison, the first part of the franchise grossed 40 crore on day one. The film made 3-4 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It earned 4-5 crore in Karnataka. PS-1 grossed approximately 327 crores in India and over 169 crores ($20.70 million) worldwide.
The start is excellent, and it has set the stage for the picture to make significant gains throughout the weekend and emerge as one of the state's largest moneymakers. The first film performed at the local box office owing to the subject's cultural and emotional resonance, and the opening day for the second installment is significantly lower since it is likely based on anticipation for the film rather than the novel's legendary status.

About Ponniyin Selvan, PS 2 is Aishwarya and Vikram's second collaboration, following the critically acclaimed 2010 film. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi star in the key roles. Supporting actors include Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Ashwin Kakumanu, Mohan Raman, Sarathkumar, and Parthiban. The technical team includes composer AR Rahman, editor Sreekar Prasad, and cinematographer Ravi Varman.

Ponniyin Selvan's second volume is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. It will begin where the original film left off, with Ponniyin Selvan facing death as Aishwarya Rai's Oomai Rani rushes into the water to save him.
