The trailer of Ponniyin Selvan 2, the much awaited sequel to Mani Ratnam's magnum work, was launched yesterday during a big trailer launch ceremony in Chennai. The teaser was released alongside the film's audio in a gala event in Chennai, attended by Kamal Haasan. A.R. Rahman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, and Sobhita Dhulipala were among those in present.
In start of the trailer, With the alleged death of Ponniyin Selvan, a new crown prince has been named. Meanwhile, Vikram's Karikalan is offered the throne of the Chola kingdom's other half. We also witness Aishwarya Rai Bachchan 'Nandini' and Oomai Rani, who dived into the sea at the last second to save Ravi's character from drowning. The action builds to a climax at the end of the trailer, when Nandini confronts Karikalan. Karikalan's face is sweet and eager as she draws her sword with trembling hands.

The Ponniyin Selvan films are based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's best-selling novel about Raja Raja Chozhan. The first film, set in the 10th century and written by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan, and Kumaravel, depicted how a power struggle between two branches of the ruling Chola dynasty began to cause violent rifts. The second film is anticipated to dig more into the tale, leading to the Cholas being the continent's most rich and powerful empire, as well as one of the most successful and long ruling empires in history.
