This airstrip is being built along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway-44 at Bijbihara. It will cost about Rs 119 crore and it will be ready in eight months.

In the statement, the officials said that this strip is about three and a half kilometers long. Its construction has been started two days ago. It is being completed on a war footing. This strip will be used for fighter aircraft in any emergency. Fighter aircraft can land and take off at any time. The district administration has issued special passes for the workers and workers involved in the construction of the airstrip.

The official said that the construction of this airstrip is very important for the country. Kashmir borders with Pakistan. A part of Ladakh is contiguous with China and a part with Pakistan. It can also be used in floods and other natural disasters. The decision to build this airstrip in South Kashmir on the Srinagar-Jammu highway was taken in 2017. 12 such airstrips will be built in different parts of the country including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, Odisha and Gujarat.
