New Delhi: In a forthcoming ceremony scheduled for September 5, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu is set to confer the prestigious National Teachers’ Award 2023 upon 75 outstanding educators. This momentous event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, as announced by the Union Ministry of Education in an official statement.

National Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually on September 5 in commemoration of the birth anniversary of India's revered former president, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, serves as the backdrop for this significant occasion. The primary aim of the National Teachers’ Award is to applaud the exceptional contributions of teachers across the nation and pay tribute to those educators who, through their unwavering dedication, have not only enhanced the quality of education but also positively impacted the lives of their students.

Each recipient of this esteemed award will be presented with a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, and a distinguished silver medal. Additionally, awardees will have the privilege of engaging in a meaningful interaction with the Prime Minister, further underscoring the importance of their work, as per the official statement.

The Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education, has been orchestrating a grand National-level event on Teachers Day annually, wherein the National Awards are bestowed upon the country's most exceptional educators, meticulously selected through a transparent and rigorous process.

This year, a significant expansion has been made to the scope of the National Teachers’ Award, encompassing teachers from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. A total of 50 school teachers, 13 educators from higher education, and 12 instructors from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship are set to receive this prestigious accolade.

In a move designed to acknowledge innovative teaching methodologies, pioneering research, extensive community engagement, and the novelty of their work, nominations were actively solicited through an online platform to maximize public participation (Jan Bhagidari). The selection process was overseen by three distinct Independent National juries, each composed of eminent individuals, as outlined in the official statement.
