President Ram Nath Kovind unveiled a portrait of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the late M Karunanidhi in the state Legislative Assembly on August 2. President, here to attend the Centenary celebrations of the Tamil Nadu Legislature, unveiled the former DMK president's portrait in the presence of state Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister M K Stalin, also son of Karunanidhi.
Paying rich tribute to the former Chief Minister, President said, “From him, his mother tongue was the object of worship, Tamil, of course, is one of the greatest and oldest languages of humankind. The whole world takes pride in its rich heritage. It was Karunanidhi who ensured that it was granted official recognition as a classical language.”
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister MK Stalin, Assembly Speaker M Appavu, Tamil Manila Congress President GK Vasan, PMK President GK Mani and Congress state President KS Alagiri were also present during the event.
