President Kovind honoured IIT student, giving free education to poor children for 4 years

Dehradun: Anant Vasistha, a student of IIT Roorkee, who teaches poor children for free in Roorkee, Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand, has been honored by President Ram Nath Kovind with a gold medal. Anant has been awarded this gold medal for outstanding contribution in the field of youth leadership. Anant used to teach free to poor students of a village near Roorkee. President Ramnath Kovind honored Anant with a gold medal during the 19th annual convocation.

8 other students were also honoured during the convocation ceremony. Anant is currently working in MasterCard in Gurugram. Anant said that after his enrollment in 2015 he started taking free classes for poor children of Kaliyar village near the college. He, along with a group of friends, took classes every Saturday and Sunday for four consecutive years.

Vashistha has told that initially, the villagers were reluctant to send their children to study. But gradually their confidence increased and 15-20 children started coming in the class starting from 5 children. He said that it was very fun to teach children for four years. He said that after arranging for a tent, blackboard, chalk and some chairs, he started teaching the children. He used to go to teach children in a village located about 8 km from the college.
