NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chairman Sharad Pawar said that opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha will file his nomination on June 27 at 11:30 a.m.
Sinha, a former union minister, has been selected as the Joint Opposition's consensus candidate for the next presidential elections on July 18, 2022. "On the 27th of June at 11.30 a.m., we will file our nomination for the Presidential elections," Pawar said at the Opposition gathering.
Meanwhile, Droupadi Murmu, the BJP-led NDA's presidential candidate, is expected to file her nomination on June 25, source said. The deadline for submitting presidential nominations is June 29, with voting taking place on July 18 and results being tallied on July 21.
Sinha expressed his gratitude to West Bengal President Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, saying that now is the time to break away from the party and fight for broader opposition unity for a larger national cause.
