JOHANNESBURG: Dwaine Pretorius, a right-arm fast bowler from South Africa who recently suffered a fractured left thumb during a T20I series against India, has been replaced for the ICC T20 World Cup by the tall left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen.
Pretorius follows middle-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen in being ruled out of the T20 World Cup, which begins later this month in Australia, due to an injury to the left index finger that required surgery.
The 15-person T20 World Cup team was announced on Wednesday by Cricket South Africa's (CSA) National Selection Committee, which included Jansen.
In the travelling reserves, Lizaad Williams, a right-arm fast bowler, has been called up to take Jansen's spot.
The obvious candidate to replace Pretorius was Jansen. Pretorius, who was the joint-highest wicket-taker for South Africa in the T20 World Cup last year, suffered the injury during the third T20I against India in Indore -- the only match he played in the series -- and was subsequently added to the South Africa ODI squad for the three-match series against India.
