New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday mourned the death of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) royal family. Nahyan died on Monday. PM Modi tweeted, saying, I convey my condolences to the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the death of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. PM Modi said that our condolences and prayers are with the Al Nahyan family and the people of the United Arab Emirates in this hour of grief.

Let us tell you that Sultan bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1 December 1956 - 18 November 2019) was a wealthy politician and member of the ruling family, Al Nahyan. Sheikh Sultan was the second child of UAE founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He was born in 1956. He was educated at Millfield School in Somerset, England and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

In 1990, Sheikh Sultan was appointed to the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, while the Prime Minister is traditionally the ruler of Dubai. From 1997 to 2009, he served as Deputy Prime Minister with younger brother Sheikh Hamdan. In 2009, he was succeeded by his half-brothers Sheikh Saif and Sheikh Mansoor.
