New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to address the upcoming high-level session of the UN General Assembly on September 26, as per the provisional list of speakers released by the UN. The 79th session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled to occur from September 24 to 30, with the general debate being a focal point during this period.

According to the UN's provisional list, Prime Minister Modi, identified as India's "Head of Government," is scheduled to deliver his speech in the afternoon session on September 26. However, the list remains subject to changes as the UN finalizes attendance, schedules, and speaking slots leading up to the session.

The general debate will commence with Brazil as the first speaker on September 24, followed by the United States. US President Joe Biden is expected to deliver his final address to global leaders from the UN podium before the upcoming presidential election in November.

Prime Minister Modi's upcoming address at the UNGA will follow his last appearance in September 2021. His engagement with the UN also included leading the Yoga Day celebration at the UN headquarters in June of the previous year, followed by a State Visit to Washington, DC hosted by President Biden.

Ahead of the General Debate, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will present his report, and the President of the 79th session of the General Assembly will also address the assembly. Guterres is concurrently organizing the Summit of the Future at the UN Headquarters, featuring action days from September 20 to 21 and a Summit on September 22 to 23.

The Summit aims to adopt the Pact for the Future, incorporating components like the Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations as annexes. According to the UN, this event is crucial for forging a new international consensus on global cooperation and adapting international structures to current political and economic realities.

With preparations underway for the high-level week, the focus remains on fostering effective global cooperation and modernizing international frameworks to better meet contemporary challenges. The General Debate and related events are poised as pivotal platforms for advancing these discussions among global leaders.
