The Punjab government has filed a petition regarding the growing AIDS cases. The most important reason for this is that 5.5 per cent of the prisoners in the state's jails have become victimof HIV. Preparations are being made to set up an ATR unit for his treatment and screening of every new prisoner is also being done. After this information, the Punjab-Haryana High Court disposed of the petition. While filing the petition, Karanvir Singh, a resident of Banud, had reported that in 16 newspapers, 930 jails of Punjab had reported HIV.

For your information, let us tell you that maximum 439 in Faridkot jail, 30 in Bathinda jail, 322 in Ferozepur, 299 in Amritsar, 210 in Kapurthala, 137 in Ludhiana, 75 in Patiala, 63 in Hoshiarpur and 55 in Gurdaspur Cases were reported. The main reason for this is the sharing of injections for drugs and sexual contact.

Regarding this matter, the petitioner said that medical examination of prisoners is not done properly while coming to jail. For this reason, if any of these HIV positive people comes to jail, then they make many people a victim of it. The jail administration should get everyone's medical done and if a person was not HIV positive while coming to jail and later it should be checked.
