New Delhi: After being suspended from the Rajya Sabha along with 11 others during the monsoon session of Parliament, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has resigned as an anchor for a Parliament television show. He also explained the situation in a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.

"It is with great sadness that I am standing down as the host of Parliament TV show 'Meri Kahaani,'" he said in a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu. I'm not ready to occupy any position in a place where my most basic right is being revoked. This is due to the arbitrary suspension of 12 of our members of Parliament. As a result, the closer I got to the concert, the further I had to travel.'

"This suspension has also ruined my MP track record," he continued. I believe there has been an injustice committed. But, if it is legitimate in the Chairman's view, I must respect it. It may be remembered that 12 opposition MPs were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the whole winter session in August owing to ruckus in the previous session and impeding the House's business. The opposition called the Upper House's suspension "undemocratic" and a "breach of the principles of procedure." Six Congress MPs have been suspended, two each from the Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena, and one each from the CPI and the CPI-M.
