"I don't like playing Mary Kom, but I would have been as happy if a woman or actress from the North East community had been taken as Mary Kom," she recently said in an interview to the English website.
Further, Lin Laishram said, 'As an artist, my soul says that I should have been there for the character of Mary Kom. But there could have been anyone from the North East.' She further said, 'We have many great artists. I want to be generous here and will say there were many actresses who could have played the role of Mary Kom. But the casting and the entire team chose someone else. It's heartbreaking, but we're coming together, and I hope it won't happen again. Very often the casting gets stereotyped and we get stuck in a very small style of our own. That too is stereotyped, and not in a good way. So when a script like this comes from our place, it would be great to give it to someone who is more qualified and who is close to that land because it helps a lot'.
