PUNJAB: In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, four former ministers and an ex-MLA switched loyalties and joined the BJP in Punjab, dealing a blow to the Opposition Congress.
In the presence of BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former ministers Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Raj Kumar Verka, and Sunder Sham Arora, as well as ex-MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon, were inducted into the party.
While Verka was the Congress's Dalit face, Arora was the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee's working president. Leaders of the Jat-Sikh community, Sidhu and Kangar.
A former Congress MLA from Barnala, Kewal Dhillon, has also joined the BJP. Sarup Chand Singla, a former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA who left the party in March, has also joined the saffron party.
All of the Congress leaders who joined the BJP, with the exception of Dhillon, lost the February 20 elections.
