Prosenjit Chatterjee who had worked with Rituparno Ghosh in films like ‘Dosar’ and ‘Chokher Bali’ admits his foray into content-driven Bengali cinema was motivated by his friend, philosopher and guide, the late Rituparno Ghosh. The Tolly superstar, whose debut in arthouse cinema came with 'Chokher Bali' by the late auteur in 2003, also says it was Rituparno who had first tapped the ‘other Prosenjit’ lying deep inside and explored it.

"I did so many commercial films but Ritu (Rituparno Ghosh) discovered the other actor lying inside me, an actor who can portray roles leaving behind routine dancing, singing and fighting scenes which helped me get stardom," Chatterjee, whose career spreads over three decades said.

Admitting that he still misses Ritu every day, the celebrated actor said, "Every actor searches for the one director in his/her life, a director who motivates to go for different kinds of roles. Remember Uttam Kumar, who was already the matinee idol, was elevated to another level after working in 'Nayak' by Satyajit Ray."

Prosenjit also feels doing a film with a great director is always cathartic. "I still follow the tips Ritu once gave me while dubbing. The way he guided me." Pointing out that his stardom in a string of blockbusters from the 90s like 'Amorsongi', 'Baba Keno Chakor', 'Sasurbari Jindabad' has secured his position at the top,

He said, "I have come this far due to these films. It’s a fact. Even now at musical soirees, I receive requests to croon the 'Chirodini Tumi je Amar' song of 'Amorsongi'. "However after decades in this industry, I now feel the urge to explore different genres. I think an actor like me has to switch on and switch off based on the demand for the roles and storylines.”
