MANDYA: In Karnataka, pro-Kannada organizations persist in their protest against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. In the city of Mandya, these groups continued their demonstration on Wednesday, urging the government to halt the transfer of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The protesters conducted a unique rolling protest at Sanjay Circle, as seen in visuals, where they lay on the streets and rolled in protest.

Earlier in the week, pro-Kannada organizations had staged a protest by standing in the Cauvery water near Srirangapatna in Mandya. Their primary demand was to cease the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, following an interim order from the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC). The CWRC had instructed Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu daily for the next 15 days.

On a related note, the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court, stating that Karnataka had complied with their directives by releasing a total of 1,49,898 cusecs of water at Biligundulu from August 12 to August 26.

Previously, the Supreme Court had expressed a lack of expertise in this matter and had requested a report from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) regarding the volume of water released by Karnataka.

This longstanding issue has been a source of contention between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for decades. The dispute revolves around the allocation of water from the Cauvery River, which serves as a vital resource for irrigation and drinking water for millions of people in the region. To address these disputes, the Central Government established the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) on June 2, 1990, with the aim of resolving water-sharing issues among Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Puducherry.
