Opposition parties (including Congress, TMC, CPI (M), DMK, SP, RJD), as well as many organizations of the North East, are opposing it. Shiv Sena has also said that it will not support this bill if its doubts are not resolved.

On this, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday questioned that those who will not support the bill, are they traitors? He said that there should be no politics of vote bank. There should not be any attempt to create a rift between Hindu and Muslim. There is nothing for Sri Lankan Tamil Hindus in this bill. Raut said that this bill was passed by the Lok Sabha but the matter is different in Rajya Sabha. We need more on both sides in the Rajya Sabha. There are some doubts in our minds that are not resolved, then we will reconsider our stand.
