New Delhi: Legendary former athlete PT Usha (from Kerala)  will take oath as Rajya Sabha Member of parliament on Tuesday.

Due to some circumstances, PT Usha and acclaimed music composer Ilaiyaraaja from Tamil Nadu,  could not be present in the Rajya Sabha on Monday for oath-taking.

PT Usha, one of India's most well-known athletes, was raised in a small town in the Keralan district of Kozhikode. For many of young girls across the nation who wanted to pursue a career in athletics, especially track and field events, PT Usha has served as an inspiration and role model.

In the women's 400-meter hurdles, where she finished fourth and lost the bronze medal by 1/100 of a second, she narrowly missed winning India's first track and field medal at the 1984 Olympics.
The former cricketer-turned-politician Harbhajan Singh, Misa Bharti, the daughter of the former chief minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla all took the oath to serve in the Rajya Sabha earlier on Monday.

Others who take oath include  Rao Meena, Vijay Sai Reddy, Kheeru Mahto, Maharashtra Majhi, Aditya Prasad, Praful Patel, Imran Pratapgarhi, Sanjay Raut, Sasmit Patra, Sandeep Kumar Pathak, and Vikramjeet Singh Sahani.
