Islamabad: Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar is in the news these days. A few days ago, he had an argument with Nauman Niaz, anchor of Pakistan's state-run channel PTV Sports. After which Shoaib Akhtar announced his resignation on a live TV show. Now Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) has sent a defamation notice of Rs 100 million to the legendary bowler.
In the defamation notice, PTVC asked Shoaib Akhtar to pay an amount of Rs 33,33,000 as well as Rs 100 million as loss equivalent to a three-month salary. Otherwise, PTV competent jurisdiction reserves its right to initiate legal proceedings against Akhtar in court. The notice further stated that, 'As per Clause 22, both parties will have the right to terminate their contract by paying a three-month written notice or payment in lieu of it. While Shoaib Akhtar resigned on air on October 26, PTV suffered a lot of financial losses.'Â The notice reads, 'Shoaib Akhtar left Dubai during the T20 World Cup telecast without informing the PTV management. In addition, the presence of indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh on an Indian channel's TV show has also done a lot of damage to the PTV.'
On the other hand, Akhtar wrote on Twitter about the notice, 'I am very disappointed. He has now sent me a recovery notice after failing to protect my respect and reputation completely when I was working for PTV. I am a fighter and will not give up and face this legal battle. My lawyer Abuzar Salman Khan will take it forward as per niazi law.'
