New Delhi: The total number of infected people has gone up to 1,18,831 in the Union Territory of Puducherry after 134 new cases of corona virus infection were reported during the last 24 hours. A senior official of the Department of Health and Family Services said in this regard on Saturday.  Health department director S Mohan Kumar said the new cases were reported during the investigation of 6,045 samples.

Around 96 cases of infection have been registered in Puducherry region alone, 25 cases were received from Karaikal, seven from Mahe and six from Yanam. The Health Department Director informed that a 68-year-old woman died of infection in Karaikal in the last 24-hour period ending at 10 am on Saturday, taking the death toll in the state to 1,769. He said that the number of patients undergoing treatment in the Union Territory is 1,573, out of which 230 are undergoing treatment in the hospital and the remaining 1,343 in solitary confinement at home.

Mohan Kumar said that 255 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the total number of recoverers in the Union Territory is 1,15,489. He said the infection rate is 2.22 per cent, while the mortality rate and recovery rate were recorded at 1.49 per cent and 97.19 per cent respectively on Saturday. The health department has so far vaccinated 22,926 advance front personnel to 37,509 health workers.
