Puducherry: The total number of infected people has increased to 87,749 after 1797 new cases of corona virus were registered in the Union Territory of Puducherry on Tuesday. In Puducherry and adjoining areas of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, the number of people who lost their lives due to infection has increased to 1212 after 33 more patients died during the last 24 hours.
Of the people who died in the last 24 hours, 16 were not suffering from any other disease. The lives of those who lost their lives were between 28 and 87 years of age. Director, Department of Health and Family Welfare, S Mohan Kumar has said that out of 9559 people tested during the last 24 hours, 1797 were found to be infected and the infection rate has been recorded at 18.79 per cent. While 1380 new cases have been reported in Puducherry region, 244 new cases have been registered in Karakul, 123 in Yanam and 50 in Mahe.
17,477 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the Union Territory. A senior health department official said a total of 69,060 patients have recovered from the epidemic so far. The epidemic mortality rate in the state is 1.38 per cent, while the rate of health is 78.70 per cent.
