The Union Territory of Puducherry has logged 120 new coronavirus cases, with 5,017 samples tested in the previous 24 hours ending at 10 a.m. on Saturday, bringing the total to 1,24,049, according to Health Department head G Sriramulu.

There have been 70 new cases reported in the Union Territory, with Karaikal reporting 17, Yanam reporting 8, and Mahe reporting 25. With one more person from Mahe succumbing to the infection, the death toll has risen to 1,816, he said.

According to the official, there are 937 current cases, with 172 patients being treated in hospitals and the remainder in home isolation. So far, the department has analyzed 16.63 lakh samples, with 14.12 lakh being confirmed to be negative. He stated that in the previous 24 hours, 76 people had recovered and been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,21,296. The test positive rate was 2.39 percent, while the mortality and recovery rates were 1.46 percent and 97.78 percent, respectively, according to Sriramulu.

The Health Department has vaccinated 38,152 health care workers and 23,005 frontline workers to date. So far, they have inoculated 5.75 lakh persons belonging to the category of either senior citizens or those above 45 years with comorbidities.
