New Delhi: Reports of lack of oxygen in hospitals across the country amid corona epidemic are being reported in the media and supply to all states is being ensured continuously. While delhi's Kejriwal government has objected to conducting an audit of the use of oxygen, the audit in Pune hospitals is saving about 30 tonnes of oxygen daily. Covid Dedicated Hospitals (CDH) in Pune are benefiting immensely from this.

Patients are also getting full benefit due to oxygen audit in hospitals in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwar. Municipalities in both the places have said that proper use of medical grade oxygen, its use in emergencies and stopping 'high flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) while eating or not in bed of the patient is saving a large amount without giving any inconvenience to the patients. Jumbo covid units of Sassoon General Hospital, Pune and Pimpri and Yashwant Chavan Medical Hospital save 6 tonnes of oxygen every day. Administration Controller of Sassoon General Hospital S Choklingam has said that they are saving oxygen through internal auditing and timely monitoring. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Deputy Commissioner Smita Jagde said that till 15 days ago, everything was not so right.

He said that till two weeks ago, the demand for oxygen was high and it could not be saved. But, now, the situation is better because all measures like appointment of 'oxygen nurses', keeping patients at proper oxygen level, conducting 'prone position' exercises and correcting leakages were taken. At the same time, the supply of oxygen has also been made uninterrupted, which is making proper use of it. Even after all these benefits, the Kejriwal government has objected to the central government auditing the use of oxygen in Delhi. SG in the Supreme Court Tushar Mehta stressed that there is a need to audit the use of oxygen in Delhi. Audits not only lead to proper management but also speed up work. It is aloso beneficial in Mumbai and itis alleged that the oxygen stock in Delhi is not being distributed properly.
