CHANDIGARH: On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led the Vidhan Sabha in paid respects to eminent personalities, including independence fighters, politicians, and renowned Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala, who had passed away since the Assembly's last session.

The House paid respects to former MLAs Sukhdev Singh Sukhladhi and Shingara Ram Sahungra and former ministers Hardipinder Singh Badal and Jathedar Tota Singh on the opening day of the budget session.

In addition, the House honoured the liberation warriors Tara Singh, Swarn Singh, Crora Singh, and Sukhraj Singh Sandhawalia, who were instrumental in freeing the nation from British domination.

The House also paid tribute to mountaineer Gurcharan Singh Bhangu, who received the coveted Arjun Award in 1965 for scaling Mount Everest, and athlete Hari Chand, who also received the Arjun Award and represented his nation with distinction in the field of athletics.

The House also honoured the well-known Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, well known by his stage name Sidhu Moosewala, who had carved a niche for himself in the vast field of music and entertainment. The legislative body also paid tribute to Principal Surinder Singh, a prominent Sikh figure.

A two-minute silence was observed in memory of departed souls as a mark of respect during the obituary references.
