Chandigarh: The protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not being named. After Kerala, a resolution has been passed in the assembly against the citizenship law in Punjab too. At the same time, the West Bengal government led by Trinamool Congress (TMC) has already said that it is against the new Act.

The Act provides for citizenship to migrants from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Jain and Parsi communities. According to this law, refugees who came to India from three countries - Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014 - will be granted Indian citizenship unless they are Muslim. This controversial law is an amended form of the Citizenship Act-1955. It came into force on 10 January, almost a month after it was passed by Parliament on 11 December 2019, when the Ministry of Home Affairs announced it through a gazette notification.

Let us tell you that there are protests all over the country regarding CAA. Along with opposition parties, common people are also protesting against this law on the streets. 26 people have lost their lives during violent demonstrations against CAA. Only 21 people have been killed in Uttar Pradesh and more than 100 security personnel have been injured.
