Amritsar: The Punjab Cabinet led by CM Bhagwant Mann has given the green signal for home delivery of wheat flour to 1.54 crore beneficiaries. The supply of flour to the beneficiaries will start from October 1. The decision of the Punjab Cabinet will put an additional burden of Rs 670 crore on the state exchequer for grinding wheat and transporting it to the doorsteps of the people. Till now, wheat was provided to beneficiaries every three months under the National Food Security Act scheme and the expenditure came to Rs 1,825 crore. Now beneficiaries will get 5 kg of flour every month.

Along with this, the cabinet has informed that the details will also be worked out to start recruiting 25,000 people in the government sector. The decision was taken in the first meeting and all departments have been instructed to identify vacancies. The cabinet approval was also taken on the amnesty scheme for private transporters announced by CM Mann a few days ago. Under the scheme, 78,000 bus, auto and taxi operators will be benefited as they can pay the dues without fear of any interest or penalty levied on them.

Earlier, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited CMD Baldev Singh Saran made a brief presentation before the Cabinet on the power situation in the state. Information was also given to the Ministers regarding the procurement of 10 per cent imported coal. He had told the ministers that PSPCL had supplied 32 per cent more power than it supplied in the same period last year. He also said that the problem of power shortage last week was due to technical snags in power plants.
