Amritsar: Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned as a minister in the Punjab government. Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation is believed to have led to a long-running conflict between him and Punjab CM Amarinder Singh. He met former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi and submitted his resignation.

It may be mentioned that Cabinet Minister Bramha Mohindra had last Saturday urged his Cabinet colleague Sidhu to take charge of the Energy Ministry, but Sidhu, angry with CM Captain Amarinder Singh, thought it appropriate to resign instead of assuming office and asked Rahul Gandhi to resign. He met and handed over his resignation.

Sidhu made his resignation public on Twitter, saying that he had resigned on July 10, but disclosed it today. Even in the Lok Sabha elections, CM Captain Amarinder Singh had blasted Navjot Singh Sidhu for not getting a large number of seats.  After which tension between the two had increased even more.
