Chandigarh: Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has said on Thursday that it is "nothing but a drama". She has said on the resignation of Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal in protest against the bills on agriculture brought by the Union government to Parliament. Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from the Narendra Modi government on Thursday.
Earlier, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal had announced that he would resign against three agriculture bills. These agricultural bills have been opposed by many farmers' organisations over the apprehension that the minimum support price (MSP) system will weaken the safety net of farmers. Amarinder Singh said that if Shiromani Akali Dal had taken a stand earlier and supported his government against agriculture ordinances, the Central government might think 10 later before the "anti-farmer" bill was moved in Parliament.
Amarinder Singh said, "Did Sukhbir and Harsimrat and his congregation not see the damage that these bills would bring to the agriculture and economy of Punjab?" he said, "or they were so blind in the greed of power that they deliberately closed their eyes on the threat posed by ordinances."
