Punjab government strict on burning stubble, 22 farmers arrested, 45 FIR registered

Ludhiana: The district administration of Ludhiana in Punjab is taking tough measures against farmers who burn stubble. Under this, 45 FIRs have been registered so far, while 22 farmers have also been arrested on Tuesday. Giving information about the case, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal has told the media that besides the FIR, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has also cut 34 challans.

A fine of Rs 2 lakh has been imposed on each one of the 13 people cutting the grain jointly. The PPCB has registered 243 cases with compensation of Rs 8 lakh. 77 clusters teams have been hired to look into the cases of stubble burning in the district. Senior Commissioner of Police and District Administration along with Police Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Aggarwal visited several villages on Tuesday.

There, farmers are being persuaded not to burn straw in their fields. FIR is also being registered against the farmer who is found burning the straw. The police have also told the sarpanches of the village that no incidents of stubble burning should be revealed. He has told the sarpanches that even the apex court has said that their accountability is created when such incidents occur.
