New Delhi: The first batch of 5 Rafale jets purchased from France has joined the Indian Airforce amid increasing tension along the border with China. The second batch of Rafale fighter jets is also going to reach India soon. According to information received from the sources, in view of China's tactics, India requested France to send another batch soon, after which the second batch of 4 to 5 numbers will be received by India in October.

Sources said that there are reports of 4 to 5 aircraft in the second batch of Rafale fighter jets and it is likely to arrive at Ambala Air Force Station in October. The first five Rafale fighter jets were inducted into the 17th Corps of the Indian Airforce on 10 September after a formal ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh as well as his French counterpart Florence Paley.

The first batch of five French Rafale jets landed at Ambala Air Force Station on 29 July. The 4.5 generation aircraft Rafale is considered one of the most powerful fighter aircraft in the world. India and France had signed an agreement for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets in 2016 for Rs 59,000 crore.
