Indore: 11 senior students have been suspended for three months in the case of ragging with junior students of MBBS at Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore, the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from this, due to suspension, their entry into the college hostel has been banned. This decision has been taken after the investigation by the anti-ragging committee of the college.
In fact, on July 24, 2022, a case of raging of first-year students by senior MBBS students came to light in the Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. The junior students alleged that the seniors made them do obscene acts, asked them to have sex with pillows, and also made derogatory remarks against them by taking the names of other students of the class. The students had lodged a complaint of ragging and harassment against the senior students. The police had registered a complaint against the senior students for ragging on the complaint of a girl student. At the same time, a student had complained about ragging and harassment on the anti-ragging helpline of UGC.
The UGC informed Dr. Sanjay Dixit, Dean, MGM College, regarding the girl student's complaint and asked him to register an FIR against the errant students. Later this was reported to the police and the college called a meeting of the anti-ragging committee. In the meeting of the committee, it was decided to file an FIR, after which the complaint letter was sent to the police. Dean Sanjay Dixit said that after the police investigation of ragging, 11 senior students were suspended immediately and due to the suspension period, they were stopped from staying in the college hostel. He said, ''These 11 senior students of the MBBS course were found involved in ragging during the police investigation. Thereafter, the anti-ragging committee of the college decided to take disciplinary action against him.'' After the incident came to light, the dean claimed that the incident of ragging did not happen in the college or hostel, In which juniors were forced to do obscene acts. Inspector Tehzeeb Qazi of Sanyogitaganj police station said that the college management had filed a criminal complaint with the police on July 24 after an aggrieved student filed a petition on the University Grants Commission (UGC) helpline. He said that after a detailed investigation and recording of statements, the police identified 11 students. The nine students were let off after being served notices under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) stating that they should appear and cooperate with the police investigation while police are on the lookout for two students in the case.
