Rahul Gandhi Disagrees with PM Modi's OBC Status, Calls it Misleading

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, made a significant statement in Odisha on Thursday, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi's claim of belonging to the Other Backward Caste (OBC) community. Gandhi asserted that PM Modi was actually born into a general category and not into the OBC community.

During a public rally as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Odisha, Rahul Gandhi addressed the crowd, highlighting, "Modi ji has been misleading the people by saying that he is an OBC. PM Modi was not born in the OBC category. He was born Teli caste in Gujarat. The community was given the tag of OBC in the year 2000 by the BJP. He was born in the General caste...He will not allow caste census to be conducted in his entire life because he was not born in OBC, he was born in General caste."

This statement comes in response to Prime Minister Modi's recent criticism of the UPA government's treatment of OBCs during a parliamentary address. PM Modi had accused the UPA of neglecting the welfare of OBCs and pointed out instances of historical discrimination against OBC leaders.

PM Modi, on the other hand, blamed the UPA government for the situation, citing the formation of the National Advisory Council during their tenure and questioning if it included any OBC members.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which commenced in Manipur's Thoubal on January 14, is currently underway in Odisha and will pause for two days from February 9-10 before resuming on February 11 in Chhattisgarh. This yatra aims to cover a distance of over 6,700 kilometers across 67 days, spanning 110 districts. It will conclude in Mumbai on March 20, following its journey through various Lok Sabha constituencies and assembly segments.

Rahul Gandhi's statement adds a new dimension to the ongoing political discourse, especially in light of the upcoming elections, as the yatra continues its journey across the country.
