New Delhi: On Sunday, hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "corrupt no.1" statement at former PM Rajiv Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that PM Modi is projecting his inner beliefs about himself onto his father. "Modi Ji, The battle is over. Your Karma awaits you. Projecting your inner beliefs about yourself onto my father won’t protect you. All my love and a huge hug. Rahul," he said in a tweet.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the life of his father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, ended as "corrupt number 1". "Your father was termed 'Mr. Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as ''Bhrashtachari No 1'' (corrupt number 1)," PM Modi had said apparently referring to the Bofors scam, in which Rajiv Gandhi was accused of receiving kickbacks from Swedish defense manufacturer Bofors for the sale of its artillery gun to India.

On Sunday Morning, Congress leader P. Chidambaram said that PM Modi has crossed all limits of decency by defaming Rajiv Gandhi. He said in a tweet: “Mr. Modi has crossed all limits of propriety and decency by defaming a man (Rajiv Gandhi) who died in 1991.” He also rejected PM Modi’s remarks as “baseless” and said that High Court had dismissed the allegations against Rajiv Gandhi.

“Does Mr. Modi read anything at all? Does he know that the charge against Mr. Rajiv Gandhi was thrown out by the High Court, Delhi as "completely baseless?" Chidambaram added. “Does Mr. Modi know that a BJP government decided not to file an appeal to the SC against the HC judgment?,” he said in another tweet.
