New Delhi: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference amidst the 'Kheti Bachao Yatra' in Punjab against the agriculture laws. Rahul lashed out at the Modi government in the meantime, saying the laws are detrimental to the farmers but also to the common people". When Rahul Gandhi was asked why you should trust Punjab and Punjabi, he told about an incident with his grandmother Indira Gandhi.
Rahul said that Punjabi people believe in action, not just my words, Punjab has given me a lot. When my grandmother (former PM Indira Gandhi) lost the election in 1977, there was no one in the house, but only Sikhs who stood by her. My grandmother was always saved by Sikhs, I will always be indebted to Punjab. If something is going wrong, I'll raise my voice. I stand with the weak".
Rahul Gandhi's statement also matters because Congress had a big hand in the anti-Sikh riots after Indira Gandhi's killing. Rahul said on the agriculture laws that if these laws had benefited, why it was debated in the parliament, if the benefit is there, why to pass it at the time of Corona. Why farmers are on the streets. If the law is beneficial, why not one is lighting crackers?"
