New Delhi: On the one hand, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has gone abroad on a 'private visit,' while his party's government is facing criticism in Punjab. Repeated lying down of CM Charanjit Singh's statement and deputy CM's reverse statement on the manner in which PM Modi's convoy was stopped for 20 minutes on the Piarena stable flyover in Bathinda and he had to cancel the Ferozepur rally and return has been a new cause of public outrage against the Congress. On Wednesday morning (January 5, 2021), Navjot Singh Sidhu, president of the Congress State Unit in Punjab, stated that Rahul Gandhi is on a foreign tour for a "secret meeting."

Talking about Rahul Gandhi, Sidhu said that people do not know whether he has gone abroad for holidays or attending secret meetings. Sidhu had said that when someone else goes for a foreign holiday, no questions are asked. Rahul Gandhi may also be abroad for his personal opinion or secret meeting with Congress leaders. BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala had then reacted to Sidhu's statement and questioned whether Rahul Gandhi was on a foreign tour to meet Chinese handlers. He asked Congress to reveal the reasons for Rahul Gandhi's visit abroad. On the occasion of Diwali 2021, where Rahul Gandhi moved to London, he reached Italy on the English New Year 2022. Rahul Gandhi left for a 55-day foreign tour in 2015 after the Congress's defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, which became a big issue at that time.

Linking Rahul Gandhi's foreign visit and PM Narendra Modi's security lapses, Doordarshan News journalist Ashok Srivastava wrote on social media, "Sidhu's statement came in the morning that Rahul Gandhi had gone for a secret meeting. By evening, there were reports of a security lapse in the Prime Minister's security in Punjab. He also used the hashtag 'PM Security Breach.' It is also learnt that the route of PM Modi's visit had already been leaked and a crowd was gathered by shouting at the speaker. Many farmers' organisations were involved. BJP workers going to the rally were also being forcibly stopped.''

In another video, the Punjab police itself is seen sipping tea along with protesters instead of removing the crowd. The flyover was jammed with a trolley. The protesters sitting 8-10 km away from PM Modi's car had also reached his car. PM Modi's security officials decided to return fearing that the situation would worsen. BJP leaders say there was no jam till 10 minutes ago, but the road was deliberately blocked as soon as the Prime Minister arrived.
