Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticized the Narendra Modi-led central government for its approach to the ongoing border standoff with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). In a recent statement, Gandhi described the situation as a "disaster," alleging that Chinese troops are stationed in 4,000 square kilometers of Indian territory in Ladakh.

Gandhi expressed his concerns, stating, "If you consider having Chinese troops occupying 4,000 square kilometers of our territory as well-handled, then maybe… we have Chinese forces controlling an area the size of Delhi in Ladakh. I think that’s a disaster."

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., Gandhi used a hypothetical situation to underline his point, questioning how any country would react if a neighbor occupied such a significant portion of its land. He further criticized Prime Minister Modi, asserting, "How would America react if a neighbor occupied 4,000 square kilometers of your territory? Would any president be able to say he handled it well? I don't believe Modi handled China well at all. There is no reason for Chinese troops to be on our land."

Gandhi questioned how the United States would respond if a neighboring country occupied a similar amount of territory, condemning the Indian government's response to the issue. "How would America react if a neighbor occupied 4,000 square kilometers of your land? Would any president be able to claim that he handled it well? I don’t believe PM Modi has managed the situation with China effectively. There is no reason for Chinese troops to be on our land."
