Hyderabad: After a crushing defeat in the assembly elections in five states, the Congress party has stepped up its preparations for the 2023 elections. This time, Congress is eyeing to sweep Hyderabad, the stronghold of Asaduddin Owaisi. The Congress party has been trying for this for a long time. On April 4, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is also reaching Telangana. This will be the second such meeting between Congress Telangana leaders and Rahul Gandhi in the recent past. Rahul had also met senior Congress leaders of the state at his residence in Delhi on Wednesday.
After the humiliating defeat in the UP assembly elections, the Congress party has said that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has worked as the B team of the BJP in these elections. In such a situation, now their eyes are on Owaisi's fort Hyderabad. Telangana Congress state president Revanth Reddy, MP Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komati Reddy, Venkat Reddy and other leaders will be present in the meeting scheduled to be held on April 4. Telangana AICC in charge Manickam Tagore is also expected to attend the meeting.
With the Congress trying for the success of its membership drive, party sources said, the Telangana unit of the party is ahead of other southern states in the nomination of new members. Sources said that around 40 lakh members had joined the party in Telangana, 34 lakh in Karnataka, 15 lakh in Maharashtra, 10 lakh in Gujarat, 10 lakh in Kerala, 5 lakh in Chhattisgarh, 4 lakh in Bihar, 3 lakh in Delhi and Rajasthan.
