Amritsar: Former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi is all set to flag off the Congress party's election campaign in Punjab today. During this time, he along with all the 117 assembly candidates of the party will pay obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and join the langar seva. This is Rahul Gandhi's first visit to Punjab after the leadership change in the state. As per the schedule, Rahul Gandhi will visit Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) after landing at Amritsar airport on Thursday morning. He will then participate in the langar service with all the 117 candidates. Then the Congress leaders will board buses to reach Durgyana temple and Lord Valmiki shrine.

After Amritsar, Rahul will travel to Jalandhar, 100 km away by road, where he will address a virtual public meeting called 'Navi Soch-Nava Punjab' (Nai Soch-Naya Punjab). The Election Commission has extended the ban on physical rallies and roadshows till January 31. In such a situation, all eyes will be on the address of the former Congress president at the virtual rally in Jalandhar, from where Rahul Gandhi will give direction to the party's campaign.

At the same time, political experts see this mega exercise not only as a show of strength but also as a show of unity. Because even after the removal of Captain Amarinder Singh, the infighting in the Punjab Congress is at its peak. State Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu, CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and election campaign in-charge Sunil Jakhar have been indirectly pressurising the Congress high command to declare the CM candidate.
