Rail service resumed in Kashmir, stopped for three months

Srinagar: Rail service between Banihal in South Kashmir and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir has been restored on Sunday. Service has also been restored between Srinagar and Baramulla after completion of trial run on this route on Saturday. In view of the removal of Section 370 in the Kashmir Valley, the rail service was suspended from August 5.

After starting the railway operations between Srinagar-Baramulla last Tuesday, the Railways has decided to run trains on the Srinagar-Banihal route from Sunday (November 17). On August 5, rail services in the valley were stopped following the decision of the Modi government at the Center to nullify Article 370 of the Constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir officials informed the media that the trial run of the trains was successfully completed on Saturday (November 16) after a thorough security check of the Srinagar-Banihal railway line. Train operations will be started on this route from Sunday. On the other hand, the annual examinations of students of secondary classes have started in the Valley from Saturday. The exams were scheduled to start on Monday (November 11), but the first two papers had to be postponed due to heavy snowfall.
