Indian Railways has signed an MoU with RailTel for mutual consent. The agreement is in place to install IP-based CCTV cameras at 6,049 railway stations across the country. RailTel is a public sector unit under the Ministry of Railways. RailTel will provide Video Monitoring System (VSS) at 6,049 stations under A1, A, B, C, D and E category of Indian Railways.

This also includes connecting the existing single CCTV network of the railways to VSS. This step will be taken for centralized monitoring. Earlier, RailTel has also provided CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of 54 railway stations for running and facilitating labor special trains. Recording of video feeds from CCTV cameras will be stored for 30 days, so that it can be analyzed and examined if needed.

Apart from this, the statement issued by the railway said, 'These IP based CCTV cameras will work on optical fiber and the video feeds of CCTV will be brought to the nearest RPF police station, outpost control room. will see. This will increase the safety of passengers. RailTel has installed VSS at 215 stations across the country. By September 2020, another 85 stations will be set up. So, the Railways have prepared 1.91 lakh personal protection gowns, more than 66,000 lakh hand sanitizers and 7.33 lakh masks from the time the corona virus lockdown was declared in March. Railways are busy achieving the target of preparing 1.5-1.5 lakh PPE in June and July.
