Chennai: On Saturday morning, a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards and is expected to relocate to the north Tamil Nadu coast by evening, bringing light to moderate rainfall.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin, the deep depression was about 350 kilometres north-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 310 kilometres east-northeast of Nagappattinam (Tamil Nadu), 300 kilometres east-southeast of Puducherry (Tamil Nadu), and about 300 kilometres southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
During the next 36 hours, it is expected to move northwestwards until nightfall, then west-south-westwards towards the north Tamil Nadu Coast.
On Saturday, the system brought light to moderate rainfall/thundershower to isolated locations across north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, while the IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall, thundershower at a few locations, and heavy rainfall at isolated locations very likely across north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Sunday.
It further stated that mild to moderate rainfall or isolated thundershowers are highly possible over southern Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
