Chennai: On Monday morning, heavy rains continued to lash Tamil Nadu and its surrounding areas, disrupting vehicular traffic in the state. Showers are expected to continue for the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
"Light to moderate rainfall at many locations with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during November 7-9; over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka during November 7-8 November 2021," the weather agency said in its daily weather bulletin. The reservoir is 165 feet deep.
Furthermore, due to the northeast monsoon, heavy rainfall is expected in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu from November 9-11. Following the heavy rains, the water level in reservoirs in Coimbatore also rose. The current water level in Sholayar is 160.27 feet, and the reservoir's height is 165 feet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday and discussed the situation in the state, which has been hit by heavy rains. PM Modi promised that the central government would provide all possible assistance in the rescue and relief efforts.
