Jaipur: In a significant development for the state of Rajasthan, 22 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were inaugurated as ministers, culminating in the expansion of the state cabinet. This ceremony took place at Raj Bhawan in Jaipur, two weeks after Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, along with his deputies Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, took their oaths of office. The cabinet expansion followed discussions between Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and central leaders in Delhi regarding the selection of names and portfolios for the ministerial positions.

Among the newly sworn-in ministers are prominent figures such as Kirodi Lal Meena, Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Babulal Kharadi, Madan Dilawar, Jogaram Patel, Suresh Singh Rawat, Avinash Gehlot, Joraram Kumawat, Hemant Meena, Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary, and Sumit Godara. This diverse group includes 12 cabinet ministers, five ministers of state (independent charge), and five ministers of state.

The delay in the cabinet formation process had drawn criticism from opposition parties in Rajasthan, with former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressing concern that the governance machinery had come to a standstill due to the prolonged delay. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Rajasthan assembly elections, securing 115 out of the 199 seats on which polling was conducted, according to the results announced on December 3. The cabinet expansion is expected to bring new perspectives and responsibilities to address the governance challenges faced by the state.
