In a move to prevent cow slaughter, Government of Rajasthan has amended the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act, 1995. Minister Rajendra Rathore informed the media about the amendment on Monday.

The amendment grants the concerned authorities power to seize the vehicle used for illegal transportation of cow. The culprits will be arrested and face legal consequences.

“State govt has made a significant amendment in Rajasthan Bovine Animals (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act 1995, providing rights to seize vehicles used in the illegal transportation of cow & arrest those responsible,” said Minister Rajendra Rathore, speaking to the media.

He further clarified that buffalos are not included in the bovine list.

“When we sent this to the President for concurrence of the amendment, he asked to make a clarification that buffaloes are not included in the bovine list,” said the minister.

The act prohibits the slaughter of all bovine animals as well as possession/sale/transport of beef and beef products. It also prohibits the export of bovine animals. The act was introduced first in 1995. As per the act, the custody of the seized animals is handed over to any recognised animal welfare organization or a volunteering individual.
