Rajasthan's New Deputy CM: Diya Kumari's Political and Royal Legacy

Jaipur: Diya Kumari, named Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, hails from the erstwhile Jaipur royal family and contested Assembly Elections in the state from Jaipur’s Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency. Before entering state politics, Kumari served as a Member of Parliament from Rajsamand. She is the granddaughter of Man Singh II, the last ruling Maharaja of the erstwhile princely state of Jaipur.

Diya Kumari received her early education from Modern School in New Delhi, GD Somani Memorial School in Mumbai, and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ Public School in Jaipur. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art (Decorative Painting) and an Honourable Doctorate in Philosophy. As reported, the new Deputy CM of Rajasthan possesses assets exceeding Rs 16 crore, managing various properties, businesses, trusts, and schools. She oversees trusts such as the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust, Jaipur, and the Jaigarh Public Charitable Trust. The schools under her management include the Palace School and Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh School. Additionally, she oversees three hotels: Rajmahal Palace in Jaipur, Hotel Jaipur House at Mount Abu, and Hotel Lal Mahal Palace, Jaipur.

Diya Kumari, a BJP member since 2013, joined the party at a rally attended by then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Rajnath Singh, and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. She won her first election in 2013, contesting the Assembly Election from Sawai Madhopur. In 2019, she was elected as an MP from Rajsamand with a victory margin of 5.51 lakh votes.
