Tamil Nadu- Chennai: Nalini Sriharan, one of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, would be released on one-month parole today, After completing surety formalities, paperwork according to Nalini's lawyer Radhakrishnan.

"Nalini, who was given (parole) by the state government on Thursday, will be released on Friday after fulfilling surety requirements," Radhakrishnan said. After numerous appeals from her ailing mother Padma, the Tamil Nadu government granted Nalini a month's parole on Thursday, according to the Madras High Court.

During a hearing before the Madras High Court  filed by Padmavathi, on Thursday the state government's decision was revealed by the government counsel. She requested the court to order the state Home Secretary to grant her daughter parole, citing age-related considerations. Following the state's decision to award one-month ordinary parole, the plea was dismissed by a division bench of Justices P N Prakash and R Hemalatha.

In the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Nalini and six others were sentenced to life in prison.
