New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 12 noon on Tuesday after the Opposition parties raised several issues, including over a dozen deaths in Gujarat's Botad area due to the drinking of illicit or hazardous liquor.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu paid respects to servicemen who participated in the 1999 war with Pakistan, and papers were set on the table.
As soon as the opposition members, including Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, displayed placards and raised issues, Naidu declared the House adjourned until 12 noon.
While other MPs were pressing various issues, AAP leaders raised the matter of over a dozen deaths caused by the drinking of illicit or hazardous booze in Gujarat's Botad region.
Over a dozen people have been reported dead, and almost 30 others are being treated at several government hospitals in Gujarat's Bhavnagar, Botad, Barvala, and Dhandhuka regions.
Since the commencement of the Parliament's Monsoon Session, the Upper House has been forced to adjourn on various issues due to Opposition wrangling.
Earlier on Monday, four Congress MPs were barred from the Lok Sabha for the entire Monsoon session for 'unruly behavior and disturbing proceedings.'
